As of Tuesday, April 9, The International Longshoremen’s Association members ratified a six-year contract for East and Gulf coast dockworkers in a coast-wide referendum. The totals were overwhelming as the unofficial totals showed ILA members approved the contract from approximately 8-to-1.
ILA President Harold Daggett and other union officials had campaigned hard for approval of the contract, which negotiators agreed on last month after a year of often-strained bargaining.
âOn behalf of ILA members and officers at all ports, weâre thrilled this master contract was ratified by an overwhelming margin,â Daggett said. âWe all worked very hard, achieved landmark improvements and protected our members and our union for many years.â
